On Friday 19 June 2020, join New Zealand subject matter experts to find out what you need to know to be an effective, engaging teacher in the online space.

New Zealand has considerable experience when it comes to delivering learning online. To build on this capability, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is hosting three free learning webinars with New Zealand and Australian experts in online teaching.

In the 60-minute sessions experts will share their knowledge and answer any questions. We will record the webinars and make them available at a later date on this website. Thanks to those people who completed our short survey to gauge interest in these webinars.

These webinars support the range of resources and tools we gathered that may help TEOs deliver online teaching.

Tertiary teaching online: pedagogy and practice. What do I need to know to be an effective, engaging teacher in the online space?

Date: Friday 19 June 2020
Time: 12:00 pm to 1:00pm
Register: by 18 June 2020

At this free 60-minute session New Zealand subject matter experts Mark Nichols (Open Polytechnic) and Ali Hughes (TANZ eCampus) discuss:

What does ‘effective online teaching’ mean?

  • framing the role of the online teacher
  • the myth of ‘blended learning’
  • the importance of your context

And how you can:

  • create an online learning context in the way in which you design your offerings
  • facilitate in that context
  • ensure learners are ready for learning in that context.

This session will focus on the why and how, including the evidence for online teaching approaches and how these are being used in the New Zealand context.

Registrations are required for this session.

Upcoming webinars

In July, we will also host webinars covering pastoral care of online learners, and supporting disabled learners in an online environment. Information on these webinars will be available soon.
